How are my claim compensations calculated

Explanation of how NS calculates delay compensation amounts and how trein-vertraging.nl determines your payout.

If you're wondering how NS calculates your delay compensation, here's how it works.

NS uses three methods depending on your ticket type:

Without and With (excl. Vrij) subscriptions:

  • 30-59 (15-29*) min delay: 50% of the single journey price
  • 60+ (30+*) min delay: 100% of the single journey price

Vrij subscriptions:

  • If you travel on a vrij subscription, compensation is based on your monthly subscription cost relative to the delay.

Fixed amount:

  • Student products(€2.32, €4.64), and many other subscriptions have unique delay compensation schemas - check the NS page for specifics
