Check out mid-journey
What happens to your claim if your trip was split or you checked out mid-journey due to a delay.
If you checked out and back in during your journey — for example to grab food or board an NS replacement bus — your trip may have been split into separate legs, and the delay may no longer be recognised.
We automatically detect continuous trips: if you checked back in within approximately 15 minutes of checking out at the same or a connecting station, we treat the journey as one uninterrupted trip and apply the delay to the full route.
What this means for you:
- You do not need to manually report the split — our system handles this automatically.
- The 30-minute window covers typical scenarios such as getting food, using the toilet, or boarding an NS replacement service.
- If your check-out gap was longer than 15 minutes, the legs are treated as separate journeys and the delay detection applies to each leg individually.
If you believe a trip was incorrectly split and not detected as delayed, please contact our support team with your travel date and route so we can investigate.
