The new NS timetable for 2025: what does it mean for you?

From 15 December 2024, NS is introducing a revamped timetable aimed at making train traffic more efficient and more customer-focused. These changes bring a number of adjustments that could affect your daily journey. In this blog post we discuss the most important changes and how you can prepare for them.

Key changes in the 2025 timetable

The new timetable introduces several improvements and adjustments. Below is an overview of the most notable changes:

1. More frequent train services

To meet growing demand, NS is increasing the number of trains on several routes:

  • Airport Sprinter: Between Hoofddorp, Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal a Sprinter runs every 7.5 minutes, providing faster and more frequent connections to the airport.
  • TienminutenSprinter: Between Den Haag Centraal, Rotterdam Centraal and Dordrecht, a Sprinter is being introduced that runs every 10 minutes, reducing waiting times and increasing comfort.

2. Faster connections to Brussels

Together with the Belgian carrier NMBS, NS is doubling the number of trains between the Netherlands and Brussels from 16 to 32 per day. With the new Eurocity Direct you reach your destination around 45 minutes faster, cutting the journey time between Amsterdam and Brussels to just over two hours.

3. Adjustments around Amsterdam Centraal

Due to large-scale engineering works at Amsterdam Centraal, fewer platform tracks are in use. That is why NS is introducing the Airport Sprinter and rerouting some Intercity services to Amsterdam Zuid. This may affect your route and your transfer options.

Delays caused by the new timetable

Although the timetable brings improvements, passengers may experience delays in the first few weeks due to track adjustments or teething problems in the planning. It is therefore important to keep yourself well informed about your route and any alternatives.

How do you prepare for the new timetable?

To minimise inconvenience, it is important to prepare well:

  • Check your route: Use the NS Journey Planner to see whether your route has changed.
  • Allow extra travel time: Especially in the first few weeks there may be teething problems; take this into account.
  • Stay informed: Follow updates via the NS app or the website for the latest information.
